www.laportecountyhistory.org
The La Porte County (IN) Historical Society Museum is hosting an Encampment and Living History event. The event will be open to the general public, at no charge, from 9:00 – 4:00 with impromptu demonstrations of camp life, care and use of weapons, and more going on throughout the day. An artillery drill will take place at 11:00 a.m. and a skirmish at 2:00 p.m. Campers are welcome anytime after 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26.
Plans for the event include a Civil War Ball on Saturday night from 6:00 – 9:00, with food and drink inspired by recipes from the 1860’s. Dancing will be going on to live music by Susan Brown and Company, out front on the verandah. The museum building is designed like an antebellum Greek Revival mansion, surrounded by several acres of lawn, and will be a perfect setting for such an event. The Ball is free to registered reenactors, but a charge applies to the public. No registration fee for reenactors. Firewood, straw, water, and bathroom facilities will be provided.
