Join us for the 147th anniversary of Gen. John Hunt Morgan’s Great Raid. Camps and battles take place along the scenic banks of the Ohio River in Brandenburg, KY. There will be a raid on Main Street on Saturday and battles both Saturday and Sunday. The 52nd Regimental String Band will play a camp dance Saturday night and various scenarios will take place both days. Reenactors will be given a dinner on Saturday evening and a breakfast on Sunday morning. Bounties of still available for union infantry and cavalry ($10 for infantry and $20 for cavalry---must participate in both battles). This event, held at Kronshage Park on the city’s south side, and at sites throughout the community, has become one of the largest and most popular Civil War reenactments in the Upper Midwest.Weekend activities, planned with the whole family in mind, include the popular battle reenactments, with the Saturday battle portraying the First Bull Run/Manassas, the opening battle of the Conflict. The Sunday battle will recreate the last battle of the Conflict near Appomattox.
Other presentations include guided tours of the Union and Confederate camps, a ladies garden party, ball and fashion show, pie and ice cream social, children’s activities, and a church service. There will also be first person impressions, medical demonstrations, workshops, and sutlers. A full schedule is available at the Web site. |
