The Civilians of Gettysburg 1861-1865 will be sponsoring their annual Lincoln Ball at the Eisenhower Inn and Conference Center (Eisenhower II), 2634 Emmitsburg Road, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 17325. The event includes light refreshments and a cash bar. Music will be provided by “Smash the Windows” while Drs. Briant and Karin Bohleke will serve as dance masters. The ball will begin at 8p.m. and end at 11 p.m. Attire is 19th century or semi-formal. Tickets are $20.00 per person and may be ordered by contacting civilwardance@earthlink.net or sending a request to CWDS, P.O. Box 3954, Gettysburg, PA 17325. The location of our event is Longs' Mariposa Ranch, in historical Mariposa, CA, just outside of Yosemite National Park and on the location of the Las Mariposas Land Grant. There will be a battle reenactment on Friday complete with tactical foot and horse skirmishes and cannon fire
Saturday and Sunday are both jammed full of events including two battles each day, AND a twilight battle on Saturday night. Throughout both days there will be a multitude of other events happening at the camps which the public are invited to attend and observe. Experience first hand a medical station, a blacksmith, a civilian town, cooking and sewing, and other aspects of life during this historical period.
Don't miss hearing Abraham Lincoln recite the Gettysburg Address or Jefferson Davis as he dispels the rumors from the Federal Camp. Listen to Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, and Clara Barton describe their lives and what it was like to be a slave.

The Hartville Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting "The Battle of Hartville Civil War Reenactment" on April 26-28 in 2013. The Reenactment will take place in Wright County, at the Steele Mansion, which is a beautiful historic home built by a Union soldier after the war. The home sits on the property that confederate soldiers camped on during the battle. 2013 marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Hartville, and we would like to honor the event by sharing the history with the public. There will a School Day on Friday, a ball and fashion show on Saturday, a free meal for reenactors, and battle reenactments through-out the weekend, with one battle taking place on the actual battle grounds from the 1863 Battle of Hartville. There will be many other activities planned through-out the weekend. Come and experience a whole weekend straight from the 1860's. History will come alive, and you will go home having participated in an enjoyable and unique experience. |
