Folks love history when we make it interesting, let us help you, help them to learn. This event is a unique way to experience the grandeur and passion of the Victorian era versus the harsh reality of the war bought between States and Brothers. It is a way for families to experience a simpler time long gone, along with some of the misery of our countryís history and to learn from those reenacting the lessons learned from this chapter of American History.

Liendo Plantation near Hempstead, was built in 1853 and during the war Liendo hosted cavalry and infantry training camps, an interment camp and hospital. For a brief time after the war it served as headquarters for General George Armstrong Custer. Tours are ongoing during the day.

There will be several camps to visit and ask questions of the soldiers and civilians. Join in some of the demonstrations in the different camps and canon fire on the battlefield. Period demonstrations throughout the lawn such as, spinning, quilting, blacksmith, music, medical, leather making and fashion show, etc.

There will be modern food vendors for meals. There will also be a skirmish on the battlefield around noon on Fri and 2 PM Sat & Sun.

Waynesboro At War Civil War Weekend,      September  12-13  2015      www.waynesboroatwar.webs.com
Waynesboro  VA

Waynesboro was a town of 457 in 1860, an unlikely place at the feet of the Blue Ridge Mountains for war to come. However, in September, 1864, and March, 1865, Union General Sheridan brought the Civil War to town.
Join us in commemorating these historic events and the men who made them happen, September 12-13, 2015.
Period craftsmen and artisans will demonstrate the skills and arts of the era. Help make soap, candles or salt. Learn to dance the Virginia Reel. Pitch a game of horseshoes, with real horseshoes, and experience much more.
Military reenactors will demonstrate period drill and recreate army life in the field. Learn how infantrymen fired three rounds per minute. Experience the ground pounding thunder of a cavalry charge. Witness firsthand the explosive power of the artillery.
Civil War themed and 21st Century vendors will offer their wares and foodstuffs in "Sutler Square," while Generals and politicians from the past regale you with their tales.
Start or end your excursion with a visit to the Virginia Civil War 150 HistoryMobile, free of charge! This will be one of only two stops made in all of Augusta County in 2015. So, don't miss what could be your last opportunity. Camps open at 9 am and battles will be fought at 2 pm each day. A Civil War Dance Social will be open to the public Saturday night 7pm-9pm.
